Celebrating your impact

Warm greetings friends of KFNL, it has been a while and much has happened for many of us. As some of you know, I live in the Asheville, NC area and have had to deal with the catastrophic impact that Hurricane Helene has dealt to our region. I grieve for so many here who have suffered much more than we have, losing homes, all belongings, and even many lives. We merely lost electricity for 2 weeks and still have no drinking water, with a prognosis of it returning in a few more weeks. We are indeed blessed and it has been a jolting reminder of how much we take for granted what we consider as “basics”.

As I write this, Grade 6 students are taking their Primary Leaving Exams to determine IF they can attend secondary schools. Girls rarely even took this exam before KFNL partnered with their schools. Now we have as many girls taking PLE’s as boys. Thanks to you!

Asheville is rightfully scrambling to figure out how to return children to schools that have no potable water. The schools we serve in Uganda had NO WATER available for hand-washing until your support of KFNL-funded tippy-tap installations allowed for basic hygiene and better health. Without necessary sanitary supplies, most girls at these schools dropped out when puberty arrived, followed by teenage pregnancy and motherhood. Your support of KFNL has changed that for many of these girls.

Whatever year-end giving you may be able to consider, I understand there are tremendous needs right here in the USA. But I also know that the children we support in rural Uganda have lived their whole life without many of our “basics”. For 2025, KFNL will be focusing on the basics as defined is our Circle Of Health and Hygiene for the 3300 students at our 6 schools.
